ONE-DAY COURSE TO LEARN HOW TO DRIVE A STEAM LOCOMOTIVE
Have you always dreamed of driving a steam train?
This dream can come true!
Treat yourself to an unforgettable day and learn to drive a steam locomotive under expert supervision. A unique and rewarding experience.
Take part in the ignition of the engine and the pressurization of the boiler. Theoretical information on steam engine operation. You'll work as a driver and mechanic on the Mortagne/Les Herbiers. You'll operate the points. Finally, you'll help store the machine, fill up with water and clean it.

SCHEDULES
From 8.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.
YOUR DAY
8.30 am You arrive at the St Laurent-sur-Sèvre railway depot. Take the machine out of the depot (one of the trainers). Change of clothes (each trainee will bring their own equipment).
Safety instructions for the site and on board the locomotive.
9.00 am/10.00 am Ignition of the machine.
Return to the room, breakfast.
10:30 am /12:00 am Return to the locomotive to warm up. Explanation of how a steam engine works.
12.00 am /1.00 pm Lunch.
1.00 pm/2.30 pm End of preparation.
2.30 pm/6.30 pm Start of the run: participation in the warm-up and driving on the empty return on the Mortagne-sur-Sèvre - St Laurent-sur-Sèvre section, conditions permitting.
6.30 pm/7.00 pm Store the locomotive, fill up with water and clean up.
7.00 pm/7.30 pm End of the programme and award of the ‘Heating and driving a steam locomotive’ diploma.
What you need to wear : work overalls, safety or walking shoes, preferably high-tops and a pair of work gloves
